Monsieur SOCAN, est-ce que j’ai le droit de siffler?
Aujourd’hui, dans La Presse, paraissait un article expliquant que la SOCAN fait payer une taxe au metre carré à tout les salons de coiffure qui font jouer de la musique par cassette, CD ou MP3. Est ce que c’est le premier pas vers des actions comme la RIAA aux USA? Est-ce que la prochaine cible sera les magasins en général, suivie des restaurants? Je vois mal l’argument… Je vais au salon de coiffure, un CD joue en arrière-plan. J’écoute sans trop porter attention (surtout que je ne suis pas très jasant avec les coiffeurs/coiffeuses, je change trop souvent…) Quelques chansons m’accrochent, je demande, “Mais qu’est-ce?”. On me le dit, et je sors m’acheter le CD du-dit artiste. Donc je mets de l’argent de plus dans les poches des producteurs, et des artistes par la bande. Où est le probleme? En quoi le salon doit payer une taxe? La plupart fait jouer la radio, ce qui est correct parce que la radio paye la taxe déjà à la SOCAN, sauf que la plupart des radios mettent des animateurs ennuyants et donc j’entends moins de musique, donc moins de promo, moins de chances que j’achete un cd. Alors que si un CD compilation jouait, il y aurait beaucoup plus de chance que j’y trouve un groupe intéressant…
Je ne suis pas contre la SOCAN. Sauf que là, il y a quand meme des limites, il serait temps que l’industrie arrête de vivre dans le temps des dinosaures et des 45 tours, et réalise que l’artiste qui a du talent n’a pas besoin de toute la supposée nécessaire promotion. Prenons Arcade Fire, Malajube, Artic Monkeys et compagnie comme exemple, si besoin est. Est-ce qu’on veut vraiment que tout ce qu’on entende au centre d’achat et dans tout les restaurants soit de la super Musak d’ascenseur? S’il-vous-plait, tout sauf ca!
Je me demande sérieusement, avec toutes ces histoires là, est-ce que dans 10 ans, on va avoir le droit de siffler notre toune préférée? Ou bien va falloir payer une taxe sur ca aussi?
